Recycling pickups

Listing material for pickup, the three offer types, claiming a free pickup, and how the pickup date is agreed.

Published September 9, 2026

A recycling pickup is a listing like any other; the difference is the direction money moves. The material owner lists it, a recycler claims it, and the pickup is agreed on the order that results. What each side pays is decided by the offer type.

Listing material for pickup

Start at Recycle. The steps are the same as selling surplus: product, quantity, ZIP, photos and contact, a one-time link by email, then the remaining details and submit for review. Signed in, use the listing wizard under Inventory with the recycle intent.

The three offer types

OfferMoney movesTypical case
Free pickupNobody paysUsable pallets or totes the owner wants gone
Material rebateRecycler pays the ownerClean cores, sorted cardboard, good totes
Hauling feeOwner pays the recyclerMixed or damaged material that costs more to move than it is worth
Who pays on a recycling listing

On a hauling fee arranged directly from a request, the fee is recorded on the request and the order, and the payout to the recycler is set up manually.

Claiming a pickup

  1. On the listing, the offer form asks for quantity, the pickup window, the offer type and amount, and notes. A free-pickup listing is pickup only and its button reads Claim now; a paid recycling listing keeps the pickup-or-delivery choice.
  2. Submitting takes you to the request under Orders. From the dashboard, a recycling availability request goes through the same offer flow and the same eligibility checks.
  3. Accepting a recycling offer creates the order immediately. There is no online payment step; any rebate or fee is settled on the order.

Agreeing the pickup date

The pickup is coordinated on the order: the material owner proposes a date, the recycler accepts, rejects or asks for a revision. Accepting the other side’s offer settles the window in the same step, whichever side accepts. When the owner accepts an offer the recycler wrote, the pickup date and time window on that offer are booked straight away and the order moves to awaiting pickup; the recycler is notified rather than asked to confirm again. Each agreed leg sends a calendar invite, as described in Freight and delivery.

What gets accepted

Each product’s grade guide states what is resellable, recycle-only, or rejected: Grades and conditions. For a facility-wide program, start with Recycling program setup and size the cadence with the pickup frequency planner.
